Commodores Log: Club date: 25 January 2010 Location: London, Carnaby Street. Mrs. Clarkson obviously felt I did not make enough awful sounds with my guitar playing, so she purchased a family Christmas present, Beatles Rock Band for the WII game…. all you need is love… and earplugs when the Clarkson family get going!
The end of another year/decade celebrated in the Clarkson style. With the kids of an age to join in, we stayed at home with friends and family. Far too much wine, far too late…. I hear the Club celebrations went well, nothing like a cold trip on the ferry on New Years Day to blow the cobwebs away. Another board meeting, all are realising that there is a lot to do, just to stand still, let alone move forward. All the Flags and Directors are working hard and beginning to see some results from the hard work. Vice Commodore has decided to move a camp bed into the Club as he spends so much time there… been there done that! The list of volunteers for the various committees is on the notice board; I am stunned by the number of members wanting to help. I have never seen so many. A good start in getting more people involved. Hurrah! Had a 2 hour meeting with a member to try and sort out some issues, hopefully, we have moved forward. Realised afterwards that if I spent 2 hours with each individual member that would be 2000 hours equating to 20 hours per weekend day for 1 year…. however, sometimes there is a need to recognise concerns. Snow closed the Club for a few days in January, we felt better safe that sorry, especially for staff members. As usual, can never satisfy all the members all of the time…. hey ho. Burns Night rapidly approaching and Mrs. Clarkson is practicing her singing, the household reverberates to her vocal chords practicing her chosen song, something about a Scottish fellow I believe? (Reminder to me: must keep her off the whisky until after her solo.) Been invited to attend the annual Sea Pie Supper of Southampton Master Mariners. Our very own Gerry Cartwright is being made Captain. Looking forward to witnessing that! Subscription renewals seem to be better that last year, fingers crossed. Must have been that nice letter I wrote. Soon be time to scrub the mistress’s bottom as the days start to get longer. An annual affair which ends up with all parties the same colour (blue!) - but still in love! |
