Weymouth and Portland – Host to the sailing events of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
An important message for recreational boat users from the Berthing Officer, Weymouth Harbour
Over the last 18 months we have been working hard to get to the stage where we can invite boat owners to visit Weymouth and Portland for the Games periods. I am delighted that hundreds of visitors will be able to enjoy this unique experience from the waters around the field of play and also the wide range of activities and facilities that will be available ashore. We are pleased to attach details of visitor berthing and anchoring in Weymouth and Portland Harbours’ during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Sailing Events. Working with partners, our aim is to ensure the sailing events in 2012 are delivered on safe and secure waters. To achieve this some restrictions need to be put in place and these safety messages need to be communicated to recreational boat users.

This year's cruiser race series has gone aground through lack of support. The two early season races seemed promising but cruising has overtaken racing during the summertime and we have not had the numbers of entries to complete the series.
There is however another option for those interested in club racing. This Club is affiliated to the Southampton Water Sailing Association or SWSA. If you visit the SWASA werbsite you will find both dinghy racing and cruiser racing. Races include evening round the cans in Southampton water and longer weekend races.
SWSA is made up of the various yacht clubs in and around Southampton water and their combined resourses provide a more consistant race series. Some of our members have already been enjoying the racing and the prizegiving evening for the last season was hosted by the RAFYC.
If you are interested in joining in with SWSA cruiser races Check out their website or e-mail me for more information. |

Here is a document recently received from our hosts in Cherbourg Chantereyne Marina

A unique destination for your rallies, for individuals on holiday or for weekends.
Situated in the heart of the world’s largest artificial harbour, whose sea walls date back to the 18th century, Cherbourg marina, in which vessels can arrive 24 hours a day, has 1550 berths available, of which 250 berths especially for visitors, up to 25 metres long and 3 metres draft.
