There are 3 Memorys in the RAFYC and they join with the other local Memorys for racing on a Tuesday evening, informal, laid back, cheery affairs ending with drinks at the Club.
The Memory 19 is a gaff rigged sloop originally designed some 33 years ago by Tony Robinson RINA for himself and his family. He was inspired by the refined shapes and practicality of the small, shoal draft fishing smacks of Brightlingsea. Since then over 130 Memorys have been built and are now well proven classics in their own right; safe, easily handled yet fast boats with numerous wins to their credit in Old Gaffers’ Association events, with the advantage of being able to raise the centreplate and sneak into hidden creeks leaving keel boats outside! Memorys also race in OGA events. Locally, this includes Yarmourh YOGAF, Solent, Marchwood and Three Creeks OGA (the latter in conjunction with Warsash SC). There will be Memory class racing in this year’s Bursledon Regatta. …..They may be small but they are great fun, and fast!
